Reg Chesters Park is the fenced one on the North Burleigh beachfront, which is the whole reason parents of runners and crawlers make the drive. A blue fence with self-closing gates goes right around the playground, the ocean is visible through it, and the beach path runs past the gate.

Inside is a beach theme done properly. There is a five-person swing set, a big frame with bench seats and swings hanging off it, a mini dune buggy the kids climb all over, a pair of giant sunglasses set in the sand, and surfboard panels painted with suns and flowers on the junior unit. The older multi-level structure has a shade roof over it, two blue wave slides, a climbing net, a ladder and monkey bars, so there is something for a confident climber as well as a first-timer.

The base is deep sand with a rubber path running through it, which is lovely to play in and hard work with a pram. Outside the fence there are picnic tables, bench seats and a sheltered picnic area with a barbecue and hot water, plus a drinking fountain and a water tap. Toilets, including an accessible one opposite Fourth Avenue, are along the beachfront path rather than at the fence, so it is a short walk. Parking is on the street along The Esplanade.
